Federal Chancellor Dr. Angela Merkel and Bavarian Minister President Dr. Markus Söder today visited with TUM President Prof. Wolfgang A. Herrmann the interdisciplinary Institute for Robotics and Machine Intelligence at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). At numerous demonstrations, both learned more about high-tech initiatives at the TUM, but also about their synergies with science-based start-ups and research-driven companies from the Munich Metropolitan Region.
The presentation in the 750 square metre main hall of the MSRM focused on the three main themes of the MSRM: the future of work, health and mobility. At the various stations, the Chancellor and the Minister President were able to watch, for example, how an independently flying robot precisely mapped areas of the hall that were difficult to access. It was shown how robots can be used as intelligent tools even in small companies and how they help to provide medical treatment for elderly people in their own four walls.
After the tour, Chancellor Merkel discussed with young scientists and entrepreneurs from the fields of AI and robotics. In a statement for the press, she said: "What you see here is that everything from basic research to application is thought through - and always from the perspective: What benefits people? This is how I imagine the high-tech country Germany to be."
