Researchers at the Munich Institute of Robotics and Machine intelligence (MIRMI) at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) have developed a model that enables a robot to serve tea and coffee faster and more safely than humans – with no sloshing. The mathematics behind the pendulum used in the concept is more than 300 years old. [read more]

Researchers at the TUMCREATE research platform on the Singapore campus of the Technical University of Munich (TUM) have developed CityMoS – City Mobility Simulator. This concept is now supporting the city state in southern Asia in the electrification of transportation. It is also helping to calculate the impact of transportation on the heat generated in the city. CityMoS is already being deployed in Germany, where it is helping with the e transformation of a DHL Freight logistics terminal. [read more]

We are happy to announce the outcome of the second Call for MIRMI Seed Funding. Within this round, MIRMI will provide funding for four collaborative scientific proposals. The goal of the seed funding initiative is to foster joint projects within the broad variety of topics in the field of robotics and machine intelligence at the initial stage. The review process is organized completely independently by the MIRMI Scientific Advisory Board (SAB). Good news for the TUM Geriatronics campus in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and the Robo.Care AI mission: the Bavarian cabinet’s 2023 draft budget includes 4.74 million euros in funding for research on robotics and AI applications in the care of the elderly. This was announced by Bavarian science minister Markus Blume on a visit to the campus, which he praised as a “model project for Germany and the world”. As a research assistant with Prof. Michael Gee in the research group of Mechanics and High Performance Computing, Tahar Arjoune has a big goal: The doctoral student in cardiac modeling and simulation would like to develop a digital twin of the heart and the circulatory system in order to predict the outcome of valve replacement and support the clinicians in their decision making. After almost three years of development, the time has come: For the first time, a robot in the experimental operating theatre of the MITI research group takes over the tasks of an "operating theatre jumper" in the non-sterile area. He fetches sterile materials - such as suture material or surgical gloves - from the warehouse, brings them to the operating theatre, opens the packaging and hands the sterile goods to the surgeon. Jugend forscht is Germany's best-known research competition for young people from the 4th grade to the age of 21. The competition promotes STEM education throughout Germany since 1965. Talents compete in six Jugend forscht subject areas: Working World, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics/Computer Science, Physics, and Technology. The Munich West Regional Competition is organized every year by Franka Emika, the Robokind Foundation, and MIRMI.
