BayFiD – Bayerns Frauen in Digitalberufen is the initiative of the Bavarian State Minister for Digital Affairs, Judith Gerlach. In the week of 28 June to 2 July, the joint Academic Workshop of the two robotics centres of Imperial College London and Technische Universität München took place. A total of 95 participants, from Principal Investigator to PhD student, took part in the 4 workshop days. While the 10-minute short presentations on days 1-4 were mainly aimed at getting to know each other and exchanging information on the research areas "Home Robotics", "Hospital Robotics", "Perception & Interaction" and "Locomotion", day 5 focused on the concrete launch of strategic initiatives.

A team of researchers from the Munich School of Robotics and Machine Intelligence has developed a new early warning system for vehicles that uses artificial intelligence to learn from thousands of real traffic situations. A study of the system was carried out in cooperation with the BMW Group. The results show that, if used in today’s self-driving vehicles, it can warn seven seconds in advance against potentially critical situations that the cars cannot handle alone – with over 85% accuracy.
