AI-Based Math Learning: Individual Support for Schoolchildren

Researchers at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and the University of Cologne have developed an AI-supported learning system that uses eye-tracking to identify the individual strengths and weaknesses of pupils in mathematics. Using a standard webcam, the system analyzes eye movements and generates targeted hints to support the learning process.

The system can visually record learning strategies and provide personalized exercises. Eye patterns are displayed using heat maps, giving teachers detailed insights into children's learning behavior. The AI-supported system was developed as part of the KI-ALF research project and has already been successfully introduced at a comprehensive school in North Rhine-Westphalia. The aim is to provide individual support to both high-achieving pupils and those in need of support, thereby making math lessons more effective.
