The pilot apartment, developed in conjunction with the service robot GARMI through a co-design approach, is an advanced living environment that supports both seniors and caregivers by integrating assistive robotics with smart home technologies. This living lab aims to facilitate real-world testing and iterative development, ensuring that GARMI’s capabilities—such as physical assistance, health monitoring, and telemedicine—effectively address the practical needs of aging individuals. In the long term, the apartment will feature a barrier-free design with sensor-based systems to monitor vital signs and detect falls, enhancing safety and promoting independent living. GARMI supports activities of daily living (ADLs), offers cognitive and emotional assistance, and enables remote medical consultations, thereby reducing caregiver workload while improving patient care.
